Storage and security are still the key issues in the cloud computing landscape

So what is happening in the world of many Clouds – everything is becoming virtualised or optimised, but where are the real bottlenecks, and what are the key issues in this ever changing mobile world?

According to IDC, storage still presents the major challenge in Cloud based computing, and security is still the key fear which prevents many organisations from starting out on the scary, but exciting journey of transformation.
We optimise servers, but still they sit idle for as much as 80% of available time just waiting for the clanking discs to deliver the relevant ones and zeros – spinning disk storage subsystems are still the absolute bottleneck in what has become a processor rich environment. SaintGroup is seeking to help to solve these issues with the adoption of new emerging technologies to address such bottleneck and performance issues – SSD (Solid State Disk/Flash) has really arrived; not just as a caching medium, but as a true storage solution which is becoming affordable and have useable capacity.

On the security side, is it just the raft of different technologies all claiming to protect against attack, secure e-mails and attachments or simply restrict unacceptable access to the web? Much time and effort is spent managing policies, setting firewalls and keeping abreast of the constant DDOS (Distributed Denial Of Service) and malicious attacks. SaintGroup has been working with a leading provider of security management solutions which not only monitors the policies and settings any security device, but will enable ‘what if’ change management which will identify any other areas of the infrastructure which may be affected before activating a change – awesome in that now, change control of a multi device infrastructure is made much more simplified, and reporting and management a reality under a single platform.

While SaintGroup doesn’t profess to have all the answers, we constantly strive to help provide simple solutions for many of the issues surrounding these and other business problems in this rapidly evolving and complex age of IT.
